Motivating Staff For 2008

Many of my friends are currently preparing for their yearly reviews, looking back over 2007 and forward at 2008. I cant think of one of them who is looking forward to the day when they have to sit with their manager and go through the process! On asking them why, its not that they dont like their manager its just that they always feel in some way demotivated when they leave. Demotivated at the start of the year!! So as a manger how can you leave your staff motivated for the year ahead?

Maybe if everybody went through a similar process there might, just might, be one or two more motivated staff willing to go that extra mile to ensure a change to the ‘bottom line’?
